Dolomites Day Trip from Venice & Treviso: Top & Hidden Gems

5.0 (19 verified reviews)

About This Experience

The most guided of the Venice departures, and the only one that builds in a genuine hidden-gem stop. A licensed local guide travels with the group alongside the driver, which is a different proposition from the driver-guide model everyone else uses.

The distinctive stop is Cibiana di Cadore, a mountain village whose houses are painted with large murals telling the stories of the families who lived in them. You get 45 minutes there with the guide before the route turns towards the high peaks.

Cortina d'Ampezzo gets an hour and a half, the most generous of any departure. A viewpoint stop for the Three Peaks of Lavaredo follows, then Lake Landro — Dürrensee — with its clear shallows and a straight view up to the Tre Cime, then 45 minutes at Lake Misurina and a final stop at Lake Auronzo.

Departures run from either Venice or Treviso. The operator notes a minimum age of 12, and that the Misurina chairlift and boat rental are available only from the middle of June to the middle of September.

I'd like to give this tour an extra star. Julia was the best live guide you could imagine, and she was extremely committed and knowledgeable about all the details. The tour is worth every penny now

Overall the day was amazing! Piero our driver was steady and safe. Julia our tour guide was full of information and was very friendly and courteous and offered to take photos etc. The tour in itself had a mix of everything. An old town with murals on the walls and lots of history, Cortina the modern town where the winter Olympics were held was nice, but for me and because I love nature, the lakes were the highlight. 3 lakes, all different and all beautiful. A fantastic way to spend the day. Highly recommend the tour!

A very good experience, with incredible landscapes and a very friendly tour guide, Giulia. At all times, she tried to explain as much as she could and gave interesting information. You can tell how well prepared she is. The time is used very well depending on the place you go to. Highly recommended.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is Cibiana di Cadore and why does the tour stop there?

A mountain village where the house walls are painted with large murals depicting the trades and stories of the families who lived in them. It is the tour's hidden-gem stop, given 45 minutes with a licensed guide, and it is not on any other Venice departure's itinerary.

Is there a real guide or just a driver?

Both. A licensed local tour guide travels with the group in addition to the professional driver, which is unusual on this route — most Venice departures use a single driver-guide. The guide leads the walking at Cibiana and Lake Landro.

Can I join from Treviso instead of Venice?

Yes. The tour has two starting and two drop-off locations, including Garage San Marco in Treviso. That makes it the practical option if you are staying near Treviso airport rather than in Venice itself.

What is Lake Landro?

Dürrensee, a shallow, exceptionally clear lake on the road north towards the Pusteria valley, with a straight view up to the Tre Cime di Lavaredo. The guide leads a stop there — it is quieter than Misurina and gives one of the cleanest views of the Three Peaks on the whole route.

Are there age restrictions?

The operator specifies a minimum age of 12 and reserves the right to refuse younger participants if not informed at the time of booking. It is a long day — about eleven and a half hours including nearly three hours of driving each way.
